Jim McMann - Home Club (Frogtown)
Jim started curling when the Frogtown Curling Club opened in Jan 2011 for the very first half-season when his wife, and brother- and sister-in-law all decided they should do something new and different. He always tell people the great thing about curling is the people you meet and you can play against some of the best in the world. His first bonspiel was at the Eau Clare Curing Club, during his second season of curling, and their first game was against a team skipped by Debbie McCormick (2003 Women’s World Champion and 4 time Olympian). He was in total awe of standing on the same sheet of ice with someone so accomplished. They the lost game (naturally) but the entire time Debbie was explainingand showing a new team the in’s and out’s of curling. At that point he knew curling was something he would do for the rest of his life and he’s happy to now call Debbie a friend.
Being part and giving back to the greater Twin Cities curling community is just something that intrigued Jim after serving on the Board of Directors for the Frogtown Curling Club. He said “what a better way to continue the friendships made at various bonspiels and making new friends at all the clubs in the area.”
He joined the TCCA Board because it is his hope is to help the TCCA to grow curling in the Twin Cities and around the country. The TCCA provides a fabulous amount of experience to assist new clubs starting in our area and explain the pros and cons of certain aspects of starting a club. He also wants to see the future generations of recreational and competitive curlers have the opportunity to play the game and do it in an environment that brings as much joy to them as the game does to him. He started curling when he was 50 years old. It is never too late (or early) to start playing.
